Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Q: How long does it take for the carpet to dry after cleaning?

A:  While many factors such as humidity, ventilation, air movement, type of carpet, etc. affect drying times, normal drying time is four to six hours.

Q: Do you "dry clean" carpets?

A:  The term "dry cleaning" is misleading in that some water is used in all cleaning processes. A method that is marketed as "dry cleaning" by a large franchise company uses carbonated water sprayed on the carpet, in theory, to suspend soils. The carpet is then gone over with a spinning pad called a bonnet. This method is an adaptation of hard surface floor cleaning used on carpets. This method is NOT recommended by any major carpet maker. In its maintenance literature, the world's largest carpet maker, Shaw Industries, warns against using this method, particularly on cut pile carpets. It has very limited potential for soil removal, as no real extraction is utilized. The spinning pad can also cause swirl marks and fiber distortion.

Q: How is your method different from all the others?

A:  Our Bane-Clene® way cleaning method is a low moisture system of hot water extraction. We use approximately half the water of most other extraction systems. Pressure and temperature are carefully controlled to ensure that carpets are cleaned thoroughly and safely. Our process does not wet the pad or backing. All of our cleaning agents have been tested to make sure that they are completely safe for your family, pets, and of course, your carpet and furniture. We do not use your water or disposal facilities. We bring our own softened, conditioned water and haul away all waste in our specially equipped trucks. Major carpet makers agree that carpet cleaning the Bane-Clene® way is not the only way…just the best way!

Q:  My carpet is a Berber style, can it be safely cleaned?

A:  Yes. Our Bane-Clene®  cleaning method is endorsed by more than fifty major carpet makers as the best way to clean any carpet.

Q: How often should carpets be cleaned?

A:  The chart below shows the cleaning interval recommendations of the United States Environmental Protection Agency. These frequencies have been determined to provide optimum indoor air quality.

Carpet appearance level - Planned v. Unplanned

Q:  Will carpet get dirty faster after it has been cleaned?

A:   No. This old wives tale can be traced backed to the days when carpets were cleaned with the shampoo method. The shampoo residue did cause rapid re-soiling. Today's modern synthetic detergents do not leave a sticky residue behind. Our Bane-Clene® system uses only a small amount of very effective cleaning agent and recovers over 95% of all moisture used. The end result is a clean carpet that will stay cleaner longer and be better able to withstand future soiling. An application of 3M Scotchgard™  is also recommended after cleaning to restore soil and stain resistance that wears off over time.

Q:  Can you remove bad odors?

A:  Yes. There are several ways to remove odor (not masking). We have deodorizers that remove most odors from carpets & upholstery. For really tough jobs we use ozone. Ozone is so powerful it can even remove skunk odors.

Q:   Do protectors really work?

A:  Yes. They are not the miracle some people think they should be. They do make it easier for substances to be removed from the fiber by holding the stain in a layer of the protectant. Removing the stain can sacrifice the protectant, which can be replaced.

Q: Do you need to clean your carpets to keep the warranties intact?

If you use a wet method, be sure to place plastic or aluminum foil under furniture legs to prevent rust and stains. Do not over-wet the carpet, and allow it to dry completely before walking on it. You can ventilate the room with fans and open windows to speed the drying process. The most important advice is to extract all soil, moisture, and cleaning agent residue from the carpet. Shaw

Things that aren’t covered under the stain warranty:

As per the brochures, the warranty specifically excluded stains from substances such as hot beverages, bleaches (including acne medication), caustic chemicals, insecticides, paints, plant food, iodine, very strong dyes, acids, feces, urine, and vomit.

Cleaning Recommendations:

As per the brochure, if carpet is cleaned before it becomes too unsightly, the cleaning chore will be easier and more successful. It is a myth that cleaning the carpet before it is absolutely necessary will cause it to get dirty faster. Carpet in a typical household should be cleaned very 12 to 18 months depending upon the number of residents and amount and type of activity.

Choice of the proper cleaning system is important. Some systems may leave residues, which promote re-soiling and defeat the whole purpose of cleaning. The following recommendations represent the best current knowledge and should help prolong the time between cleanings.

Shaw Industries recommends the hot water extraction system, which research indicates provides the best capability for cleaning.

It is to your advantage to use professional cleaners, because their experience enables them to do a better job than you can do yourself. Their equipment has more extraction power than the rental units available to you, and the carpet should dry more quickly. True professionals have also made the investment in training to understand the equipment, to know the proper cleaning agents for the situation at hand, and to recognize the differences in fibers and carpet construction.
